Paleo Diet Blast From the Past
This is seriously one of my favourite “diets” out there. I try to stay the course with this one as much as possible.
When I cheat, I use the Primal Diet which is almost similar to this one. So, why? What is the paleo diet? How do I do the paleo diet? Will it work for me? These are all the questions that I am going to answer with this blog post right now.
What is the paleo diet?
The paleo diet is based off how we used to live when we were living in cave. A lot of fruits, berries, and meats (including fish) very little if any carbs like pasta, bread, rice, oats (like oatmeal), and grains in general. This allows your body to go into ketosis where it is forced to release ketones and theoretically breakdown body fat.
Why the paleo diet?
It has been proven time and time again by geneticists from around the world that our bodies have only 7 cellular mutations since man has set foot on this planet. What does this mean? It means we have adapted to digest/breakdown 7 foods that we were not designed to eat from our beginning. Now here’s a fun little fact: in 2010 the USFDA approved 209 new foods that they have deemed to be safe for human consumption. That means we know how to break them down. Please read that one again. Since we started being human, we adapted to digest seven (7) new foods, yet in 2010 the USFDA approved 209! I don’t think so! So why paleo? Because it is the closest, we are going to get the proper quality of food that we can use.
How do I get on the paleo diet?
Well in a nutshell it is pretty easy. All you have to do is eat meats, fruits, vegetables, and berries. Now for extra bonus point eat non farmed meats, wild fruits, berries, and vegetables, but good luck this can become tricky in a big city. You can find it, but it is harder to find. The best part is that there are a ton of websites out there that can give you hundreds of recipes and some of them will teach you to make pasta free lasagna and yes, it is amazingly delicious.
Will it work for me?
Absolutely! No question. Why am I so confident? Well this is what we’re designed to eat so get on it and do it. Your body will respond in such a positive way that you will instantly feel better, because you are now giving it something it instinctively knows how to breakdown and use. And our bodies love being lazy and efficient.
Now, I said in the beginning of this blog post that I use “The Primal Diet” by Mark Sisson as my cheat day, why? Because with this one we can eat some grains and dairy products which are a critical part of our wellbeing. So, don’t be too strict on the paleo (I know some people live and die the diet) but it really is unnecessary. You have to be able to pull yourself from rigidity. And besides, if you do become too rigid you will lose out on some amazing foods.
