Benefits of Proper Supplementation
Last week we talked about how to supplement. This week we will dive into the why? What’s the point of supplementing? In short it helps you feel better, recover quicker, and helps you increase your resistance to illness.
Now before I get into these three topics, I do want to add something to last week's blog post on the how, and honestly I didn’t really think about the most important How to take a supplement (Vitamins in particular).
When taking vitamins, you need to know what makes it breakdown and be absorbed into the body effectively, now don’t worry you don’t need a chemistry degree to figure this out, it is very simple. There are two different factors that help vitamins breakdown they are water and fat. Fat soluble vitamins need (you guessed it) fat in order for it to breakdown properly, these vitamins are A, D, E, and K. Water soluble vitamins need water in order to breakdown, these are all the rest of the vitamins. Simple right!
Moving on let’s talk about why you need to be supplementing.
• Helps you feel better, this is one of the more controversial one of all the benefits because we can argue it may be psychosomatic. However, there are tons of studies (the Nurses Study conducted in Massachusetts by Harvard University in the 70’s is one of them) that can prove that finding out what nutrient you are missing and adding it to your daily routine is super beneficial from being in a better mood to physically feeling better. This has to do with giving your body what it has been missing, and when you can find out what that is and you give it, it will thank you in ways that are indescribable.
• Recover quicker, as I said last week when you supplement properly your recovery rate when you are not at the gym quickens drastically (I will not give you a number because I cannot find it). I have personally tested this out myself, and whenever I “take a month off” from properly supplementing I really hate going to the gym because I have to stop as I am still sore by the time I get back into the gym. However, when I am supplementing my recovery quickens and I can hit the same body part twice in a week. Again, the nutrients that you are giving your body what it needs it will respond in kind.
• Helps increase your tolerance to illness, this is not mumbo jumbo or some weird esoteric nonsense that I am spuing. Talk to any Ayurveda practitioner, or Chinese medical doctor or any of the other holistic practitioner, or most modern doctors for that matter and they will all agree that proper supplementation will help stave off most (if not all) forms of disease. Modern medicine is for the most part the vitamins and minerals (just jacked up) so you can get better faster. And quite frankly if you are in the hospital, I think we can all agree that it would be in our best interest to get out of there ASAP. But, with a proper supplementation regiment you can stave off most illnesses because your body is properly fortified.
Now to be fair there are thousand benefits that I go into but I am not and I am sure if you do a search in Google you can hundreds of pages with different theories (most of which are right) but I only listed three here just so I don’t lose people. My suggestion as I have been regurgitating over, and over is speak to naturopathic doctor, or a nutritionist, or your doctor and see what you are missing and take the supplements. If you are working out, look at last weeks post and this is what most workout fanatics (yours truly included) are doing to get some ridiculously impressive results.
