Prepping the Immune System
Well it’s that time again, flu season is looming it’s ugly head at us once again.
But this time it seems just a bit more sinister with the so called “second wave” of CoVid 19 of earlier this year. But don’t you worry. As always, I’ve got your back on this. This week I am going to give you three sure-fire tips and tricks to bolster your immune system and give you a winning prescription to beat this dreaded flu season.
Tip #1: Load up on Vitamin C:
I usually down about 3,000 mg of Vitamin C but during this time of year I add an extra 2,000 mg. Why? Because Vitamin C helps fight off most, if not all, flu viruses. I do this by mixing tablets and I eat a ton of oranges and tangerines. Also, I love the taste of them. You can also find a ton of Vitamin C in other foods like broccoli, kale, papaya, red, green, or yellow green peppers, sweet potato, cantaloupe, cauliflower, strawberries, and tomatoes (WebMD). As you can see it is extremely easy to find your fill of vitamin C.
Tip #2: Zinc it up:
Zinc is one of these minerals that is essential to maintaining a strong and solid cellular structure. It literally fortifies the cell walls and viruses don’t stand a chance on penetrating with cell wall to poison the “stuff” inside the cell. So, where can I find zinc? Well other than tablets (like I take) you can find zinc in oysters, beef, lobster, pork, yogurt, baked beans, and cashews (WebMD). If you are a vegan/vegetarian or such you can get your fill by supplementing or just eat your beans and cashews and you’re good.
Tip #3: Drink lots of water:
There I said it again, and I will keep saying it until my end. The more water you drink the better hydrated you are. This has a slew of different health benefits that range from better digestion, better autoimmune response to viruses, better cell absorption of nutrients, better absorption of water soluble vitamin (like vitamin C hint, hint), better brain function, which leads to better nervous system communication…are you getting my hint here! Do I need to continue? I hope so. The more water you drink the stronger your body on the inside functions. So, grab a couple of liters (4 per day) and down it.
Disclaimer: if you follow these three tips (highly suggest you do) you will lessen your chances of getting sick, but it is not negated. You still have a chance of getting sick. Now, if you chose to get your flu shot (I am neither for nor against it it is your choice) again you can still get the flu. I leave the decision up to you. But know this, our bodies need these viruses in that it teaches our immune system how to fight it. It sucks when you do get it but it is important that we go through it.
