Top Cleanses to Look At

With the cold months behind us and the nice hot long summer days ahead its that time of year of happy transition.

This transition helps us remove the “cob webs” from our hibernation by cleaning out our system in the hopes of implementing new and improved systems. It’s spring cleaning time. A happy time of the year.

This week we are going to look at my favourite three cleanses that I have done in the past that have helped me with this sort of “spring cleaning”. Let’s face we need to cleanse all the crap over the winter months, not only in our homes but also in our bodies as well. So, what are my top three? Well, I am going to list them from short time frame to longest and you can also try them as well and see what works for you best.

1. Prune Juice Cleanse. This cleanse only takes a day, but it does the job extremely effectively. It is very simple to do, and the prep is not that expensive nor is it extensive. All you have to do is buy a liter of prune juice and drink the whole thing at once. Then just let the prune juice work it’s “magic”. A few words of advice when you are doing this cleanse:
a. do this in the morning and make no plans for that day, you won’t be able to leave your bathroom for too long,
b. don’t trust gas, it’s not gas, and
c. have a ton of toilet paper. You are going to need it.

2. The Master Cleanse. This is not an easy cleanse to say the least. Many singers and actors have done this cleanse and have dropped weight because of it (please read my note below on this). This cleanse lasts at least 10 days and all you drink is a mixture of maple syrup, lemon, and cayenne pepper throughout the days whenever you feel hungry. In the morning you drink 4 cups of salt water and a laxative tea. When the minimum of 10 days has passed you then slowly reintroduce solid foods first through juices, then soups and broths, and finally solid foods. You can take a look at this website for more information but be forewarned this is not easy. You are giving up solid food for at least 10 days I have done this once in my life and I am not doing it again.

3. Orthodox Fasting. I know I am a bit biased on this one but hear me out. You do not have to be religious or even believe to do this. This fast looks at balance in your diet. Start it off by not eating meats on Wednesday’s and Friday’s and on Sunday’s eat only fish or pick any other two days out of the week, for that matter, and don’t eat meats and one day only fish. Once you are used to that select two weeks out of the year and go vegan. And finally pick 40 days out of the year and go vegan. The ultimate test is if you can do the 40 days with no food. I cannot do this, but I do know of people that can, I can do the 40 days as a vegan. Now on the note in the Master Cleanse. I need to emphasize that doing cleanses must not be about losing weight. You need to cleanse your body from all of the crap that you have put inside of it over the year. Weight lose is only a side effect from the toxins you are already have in side of you. So, my suggestion is start off easy for a few months and slowly push yourself to the more challenging ones.
